We often get asked to show case our client’s skin art in their photo shoots, and we absolutely love it. Whether big small, simple or intricate, we really think that tatts are awesome. So, here are just a few reasons why you need to get your ink photographed…
Firstly, tattoos are usually personal; they often tell a story about YOU. whether obvious or cryptic, people can’t resist taking a closer look at them & asking questions like, “What do your tattoos mean? Do they represent or commemorate something? What’s your story?” Sometimes though, like any painting or photograph, a tattoo is just a thing of beauty – and there’s zero wrong with having a design or image or even quote tattooed simply because you like the way it looks.
Another reason why having your tattoos photographed is such a worthwhile venture, is because your artwork may be positioned somewhere on your body that you don’t personally get to appreciate! The most common placement we see in the studio is on the back or shoulders, so we really like to include portraits that feature these pieces, so that you get to enjoy them as much as everyone else does.
Not only that, but our tattoos change and fade over time…sad but true. Our skin is a living, breathing organism and it’s gonna wrinkles and shed and scar, and before you know it, your work of art is going to look very different to what it used to. That’s why our clients tend to prefer printed portraits to digital copies too – the paper gives colour portraits a richness and vibrancy that’s perfect for skin tone, and black and white tattoos become crisper and have a texturing effect. Ultimately, having a portrait of your tattoo makes it Art within Art.
You might prefer to solely have your tattoos captured, rather than include yourself too much, and that’s totally cool with us. You can create beautifully anonymous body close ups where you can literally only be identified by someone who knows you intimately – and that makes the portrait all the more seductive. Between you and us, these have always proven particularly popular with clients who want to gift something super personal to their partners too…
Lastly, tattoos are SO HOT RIGHT NOW. Nearly 15% of Australians have at least one tattoo and that number is said to be growing – most likely, because our lives are becoming more and more internet based. Every day our visual identity is how we’re seen on Facebook, Instagram and in video chats. Even dating has become a predominantly app-based activity, and with studies showing that tattoos get more likes and swipe-right’s, you’ll be glad to have a few really good profile pictures…
